Neck Procedures

We offer patients world-class treatment using cutting-edge technology and the latest techniques. Our most commonly performed neck procedures include Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion, Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy and Cervical Laminectomy.

Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion

Patients with either persistent arm pain, weakness and numbness caused by nerve compression or patients with cervical myelopathy from a herniated disc may potentially benefit from surgery to remove the portion of herniated disc.

About the Procedure

Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion is an operation in which a small incision is made in the front of the neck to allow the surgeon to remove the herniated disc compressing the nerve and/or spinal cord and replace the disc with a cage, bone graft and screws. This stabilizes the spine at the level of surgery and fuses the vertebrae above and below the herniated disc.

Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy

Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy is a minimally invasive procedure to treat cervical radiculopathy (arm pain, weakness and/or numbness) secondary to nerve compression in the neck.

About the Procedure

A small incision is made on the back of the neck with aid of x-ray imaging and a portion of the bone and soft tissue over lying the compressed nerve is removed to decompress the irritated nerve.

Cervical Laminectomy

Many patients with cervical myelopathy have canal stenosis due to narrowing from in front and behind the spinal cord rather than just a herniated disc.

About the Procedure

Surgical treatment in this setting may require a cervical laminectomy, removing bone from behind the spinal cord, to remove pressure from the cord. At the time of cervical laminectomy insertion of screws and rods to further stabilise the cervical spine may be performed.
